Complete Text of Allama Mohammad Iqbal’s Urdu poem, Har Lehza hai Momin kee

Allama Mohammad Iqbal (1877-1938) was a revolutionary philosophical poet of Pakistan with a message of Pan-Islamism. Here, in this poem, Har Lehza hai Momin kee, he describes the attributes that make an ideal Muslim (a Momin) unique among the various intelligent species inhabiting the Cosmos. He hints at the great destiny awaiting a Muslim if he realizes his/her potential and becomes a Momin to lead the nations inhabiting the various planets of the Cosmos. His poem is replete with references to the Cosmos (see the words Anjum, Muqaddar ka sitara, and Fitrat kaa sarod e azalee).

In the iconic image seen below, Allama Mohammad Iqbal is praying for Muslims of the world at the grand Mosque of Cordoba, Spain. I interpret this image as Iqbal praying at an ancient portal to the Universe.

ہر لحظہ ہے مومن کی نئی شان نئی آن

گفتار میں کردار میں اللہ کی برہان

قہّاری و غفّاری و قدّ وُ سی و جبروُ ت

یہ چار عناصر ہوں تو بنتا ہے مسلمان

قہّاری: قہر کرنے والا (دشمن پر)۔ غفّاری: خطاؤں کو معاف کرنے والا ۔ قدّوُسی: فرشتوں کی سی پاکیزگی ۔ جبروت: عظمت، دبدبہ، جلال ۔

ہمسایہءِ جبریل ِ امیں بندہ ءِ خاکی

ہے اس کا نشیمن نہ بخارا نہ بدخشان

یہ راز کسی کو نہیں معلوم کہ مومن

قاری نظر آتا ہے حقیقت میں ہے قرآن

قدرت کے مقاصد کا عیار اس کے ارادے

دنیا میں بھی میزان قیامت میں بھی میزان

عیار : کسوٹی ۔ میزان۔ : ترازو۔

جس سے جگر ِ لالہ میں ٹھنڈک ہو وہ شبنم

دریاؤں کے دل جس سے دہل جائیں وہ طوفان

فطرت کا سرود ِ ازلی اِ س کے شب و روز

آہنگ میں یکتا صفت ِ سورہ ءِ رحمان

بنتے ہیں مِری کار گہ ِ فکر میں انجم

لے اپنے مقدّ ر کے ستارے کو تو پہچان
